I recently challenged my Tuesday morning Bible Study group to read a chapter of scripture each day. We use a group text to keep in contact during the week, but it has been a bit lifeless.
The goal is to read a chapter, note a verse or two that sticks out, and write down what application you think it may have for your life. Then, text it to the group.
The books of Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, and 2 Thessalonians have 28 chapters (almost a month). Maybe I’ll add the book of Titus at the end. I love that letter.
Today, we kick off that challenge. Here was my entry this morning:
“For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man’s gospel. For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.”
Galatians 1:11-12 ESV
A reminder for me that good things are from Christ and not from my own understanding.
I transcribe whatever verse sticks out to me in my journal. I have been doing that with the daily verse in the Bible app for a few years. It’s transformative. Reading and digitally highlighting is not the same as transcribing. There is something about writing something down that etches it into your mind.
I encourage you to start your own Bible reading challenge. You don’t have to start on the first of the month. Starting today is better than telling yourself you will begin next month and then not doing it. Even better, invite a couple of people to do this with you.
